Volta Medical, GE HealthCare partner on AI-driven electrophysiology tech

Volta Medical announced today that it entered into a joint development agreement with GE HealthCare .

The development deal aims to integrate Volta Medical’s latest AI solution, the AF-Xplorer, with GE Healthcare’s Prucka 3 and CardioLab EP recording system. This combination could enhance performance and streamline workflows for electrophysiologists during ablation procedures for AFib.

Volta Medical designed its AI solution to assist electrophysiologists in real-time assessment of dispersed electrograms (EGMs). Its AI-powered support system was included on MassDevice’s list of AI-powered cardiology technology you need to know.

Combined with GE HealthCare’s digital platform, the companies hope the technology helps optimize AFib management. The collaboration aims to integrate advanced EP recording capabilities with AI-driven dispersion information.

Devon Bream, GE HealthCare’s global GM for invasive cardiology said in a news release that Volta’s solutions “hold promise in consolidating and simplifying data” while also helping clinicians make treatment decisions. The medtech giant continues to make AI-centric moves with this Volta collaboration, too. Last week, it agreed to acquire Intelligent Ultrasound Group’s clinical AI software business. That added to the company’s 2023 buy of Caption Health, which added capabilities in AI-enabled image guidance.

“Our mission to combat complex heart rhythm diseases relies on optimizing interoperability,” said Théophile Mohr-Durdez, Volta CEO and co-founder. “Through this collaboration with GE HealthCare, we are advancing the frontier of current clinical applications in the field of electrophysiology. “To help enhance patient care in this field, Volta Medical aims to further integrate its AI solution with EP innovators to help increase compatibility and address the challenges clinicians face in analyzing cardiac electrical signals.”
